President's Toronto SUN Column: Renovation Rebate Would Benefit Homeowners
Tuesday, 21 February 2012, 08:34:24 AM
When home buyers are shopping for a home, they often consider its future potential in addition to its current condition. So, the need for renovations and upgrades, either out of necessity or desire, are often factored into their buying decisions. Frankly, this is a good thing because home renovations help to create jobs and generate tax revenue for the government, worthy goals that REALTORS® are calling on provincial politicians to support and encourage with a rebate for homeowners who undertake renovations.

As the nights get cooler, we all have a number of autumn traditions to look forward to like Thanksgiving, Halloween and fall fairs. One tradition that has been part of the real estate community since 1986 is the Toronto Real Estate Board’s 25 & 50 Year Member Dinner. It celebrates Members’ many years of service to Greater Toronto Area (GTA) homebuyers and sellers.

President's Toronto SUN Column: Using A Realtor To Buy A New Home
Tuesday, 21 February 2012, 08:34:14 AM
I recently read an article, in a Toronto news paper, that got me thinking about the experiences of home buyers purchasing newly built condominiums. The article detailed home buyers who had bought a newly constructed condominium, from floor plans, but, unfortunately, once the unit was built, they were disappointed when they realized that one window looked at a brick wall, the floor was laminate and the balcony was “more of a ledge.” This article is a good reminder that there is a lot to consider when deciding to buy a newly built condominium.

If you are considering the purchase of your first home you're probably aware that like many of life's milestones, there are many things you must consider.

Understanding conditions in the real estate market is a good first step. Current conditions in the Greater Toronto Area resale market remain quite favourable for people looking to take the first step onto the property ladder.

President's Toronto SUN Column: Helping those less fortunate
Tuesday, 21 February 2012, 08:34:09 AM
Almost every year, I head south in November to spend some time with REALTORS® from all over the world at the National Association of REALTORS® Conference. It is a great way to find out what is new and happening in terms of technology and get an idea of the upcoming issues for the real estate community.

In hopes of avoiding sounding like a broken record, but rather helping to be a constant reminder of how important it is, not just during this time of year, but all year to give back, and help those less fortunate.
The GTA REALTOR® community has sponsored a number of worthy organizations throughout the years that helps build solid foundations with homes and communities.

President's Toronto SUN Column: Expect demand to be strong in 2012
Tuesday, 21 February 2012, 08:33:52 AM
Each January many of us set goals for the year ahead, taking into account household finances and broader economic circumstances. One key yardstick of our nation’s economy is the real estate market, which in Toronto came to a strong finish in 2011, making it the second best year on record with 89,347 transactions, up four per cent in comparison to 2010’s 86,170 sales.
